Dragons continue Kogarah hoodoo against Warriors

v BYE

The Warriors have lost at UOW Jubilee Oval again at the hands of the home side - St George Illawarra 26-12 victors in front of 11,608 fans.

Tonight was meant to mark the return of Kieran Foran, but a hamstring injury forced the Warriors' newest signing to the sidelines just before kickoff, and a late change saw them reshuffle their halves, centre and wing parings.

On a beautiful warm afternoon at Kogarah, the Red V faithful saw the Dragons turn the Warriors into the worrying. The game started with a penalty goal to the Dragons, then one for the Warriors, all within the first seven minutes. It was looking like a close contest.

Btut then the tries started, opening for the Dragons with a strong run from Paul Vaughan who cut through the Warriors defence, dotting down right under the posts. Next came a four-pointer from Josh McCrone, and another by Josh Dugan. The Dragons were in front 20-2 at this point, and sitting pretty after just 22 minutes.

The Warriors, with a try to Isaac Luke, stopped the Dragons in their tracks. This saw Warriors reduce the margin back to 20-8 and prevent an onslaught of points.

The first half ended with multiple errors from both sides, with the Dragons on 6 errors by the change of ends, but the Warriors no better, on 9.

Play resumed after halftime with a massive error from Josh Dugan, overstepping the dead ball line from a huge kick-off, giving the Warriors a fantastic opportunity, and Ken Maumalo took full advantage, running straight over the try line, and the Warriors looked like they were suddenly on fire, having closed the gap to just eight points.

A beautiful side-step by Tim Lafai saw him cross over the try line not long after though, and a stellar kick from the sideline saw Widdop crack through 500 career points.

From this point, the game was a mass of errors and incomplete sets from both sides. But lucky for the Dragons, no more points were scored, and they run out victorious tonight, against the Warriors, 26-12!

Next Week:

The Dragons head to ANZ Stadium to take on the Wests Tigers.

The Warriors go back home to Mt Smart Stadium, taking on the Gold Coast Titans.
