Rabbitohs run roughshod over rusty Roosters

v BYE

A clinical South Sydney Rabbitohs have delivered a huge blow to the Sydney Roosters in their Round 1 clash this afternoon, downing the 2015 minor premiers 42-10 at Allianz Stadium in front of more than 25,000 fans.

The Bunnies opened proceedings with a try to Cameron McInnes after just 6 minutes. Having dominated the opening encounters the Rabbitohs took advantage of already weary defence with the crafty hooker catching the Roosters' line asleep at the wheel. Reynolds' conversion ensured the Rabbitohs got a 6-point start and the gates opened in earnest not long after.

Aaron Gray and Paul Carter added their names to the scoresheet in the ten minutes that followed, shooting the Rabbitohs to a 16-0 lead before Alex Johnston plucked a pinpoint Adam Reynolds grubber from the sky to extend the score to 22-0 after the halfback's conversion.

Next to the party was Greg Inglis at the 26th minute and by that point concerns were high for the Roosters, conceding points at the rate of one per minute. Thankfully for the home fans, there were no further points added before the break, South Sydney taking a 26-0 lead into the sheds and leaving half of Allianz Stadium in stunned silence.

The Rabbitohs continued on their way after the break though - Kyle Turner helping pile on more misery for the Tricolours and extending the scoreline to 32-0.

From there the Roosters appeared to arrive at Allianz - Joe Burgess scoring his side's first points before Bryson Goodwin returned serve minutes later for the visitors. Burgess added a second try shortly after that to bring the score to 38-10, which would only be altered by a 70th minute try to Souths' Hymel Hunt.

Arguably the biggest talking points out of today's game will be the casualty ward - both Adam Reynolds (jaw) and John Sutton (pectoral) failed to complete the game and could be looking at significant downtime in what's been a horrid opening round for injuries.

Those injuries will be the focus of talk about the red-and-green going into their second round clash next Saturday against Newcastle at ANZ Stadium, where they'll wear a special "Batman vs Superman" outfit as part of a promotion. The Roosters play away in Canberra at 3pm the same afternoon against the Raiders.
