NYC Cowboys bounce back to thump Eels

The NYC North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have dominated the Parramatta Eels 54-12 in a powerful display at 1300SMILES Stadium tonight.

Nine tries to the Cowboys and an excellent conversion rate from both Cooper Bambling and Kalyn Ponga led to the blowout scoreline.

The Eels were consistent in the first stanza but unable to keep up with the Cowboys in the second half, as they ran away with the match, securing the two competition points and the team's first win in three matches.

The Eels opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a try to fullback Amanaki Manu on the left side of the field.

The visitors capitalised on tired defence and good field position from penalties for poor ruck discipline in the middle of the field.

The successful conversion from Troy Dargan made the scores 6-nil in favour of the Eels.

It took the Cowboys until the 14th minute to reply, and it was Kalyn Ponga who did so after scooping up a loose ball and running the length of the field to score under the posts.

Cooper Bambling's kick was successful, levelling the scores at 6-all.

The Cowboys kept up the momentum after rolling up the field and scoring with sharp ball movement through Hiale Roycroft on the left edge.

Kalyn Ponga took the kick and was unsuccessful, leaving the scores at 10-6 after 18 minutes.

The arm wrestle continued until the 26th minute when the Cowboys scored a length-of-the-field try while defending their own line.

Marcus Jensen scored after Cooper Bambling scooped up the loose ball and went halfway, before handing off to the winger.

Ponga's kick was successful, bringing the score to 16-6.

The Eels' determination to stay in the contest showed five minutes before half time after Matt Price scored after the visitors maintained pressure on the Cowboys' line.

Troy Dargan's conversion was successful, leaving the half-time score at 16-12 in favour of the Cowboys.

After the Eels were unable to complete the restarting set, the Cowboys capitalised on the error and scored through Jordan Kenworthy under the black dot.

Ponga's successful conversion made the score 22-12.

Two penalties leading to a successful penalty goal after the half-time siren - one in general play and the other after the unsuccessful attempt at a penalty goal - made the half-time scores 24-12 in favour of the Cowboys.

It took the Cowboys seven minutes of the second half to crack the Eels, and Ponga was the one to do it, with a sharp run and pass for winger Nathan Traill to score under the posts, before Bambling converted to make it 30-12.

A few minutes later Coen Hess broke the Eels defence, crashing over on the right side, and it was 36-12 after Ponga's successful kick.

In the 57th minute the Cowboys again scored against the run of play, after a wayward Parramatta kick found winger Nathan Traill, who beat the opposite winger, before handing off to Ponga to score his second and then converted his own try to post 42-12 on the scoreboard.

The Cowboys scored again with 14 minutes to go, after good pressure on an in-goal kick led to a knock on that Cooper Bambling dived on, and it was 48-12 after the successful conversion.

The Cowboys continued to pile on the points, as Ty Carucci crossed with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

Another successful conversion from Ponga left the scores at 54-12 and marked the final result.
