Tigers' roar zapped by Storm comeback

A 14-0 first half lead wasn't enough for the Wests Tigers as the Storm scored a 22-14 comeback victory today at Leichhardt Oval in front of more than 12,000 fans.

A blistering first half hour from the home side has meant very little as they conceded 22 unanswered points to lose their Round 4 clash.

The first half hour of the game looked a complete reversal of what we had come to expect from this game, the Tigers started on absolute fire while the Storm were looking like the cellar dwellers. Melbourne couldn't tackle or hold the ball early and points came for the Tigers after ten minutes when Mitch Moses managed to scramble towards the line and get the ball down for a 4-0 lead. Having missed the conversion attempt, a penalty goal double for Moses sent the Tigers lead out to 8-0 not long after.

Another first half penalty for Tigers kept their momentum going and just minutes later it was a second try for the Tigers to Elijah Taylor and after the conversion the score was 14-0. The Storm looked gassed and it was going to take a bit of luck for them to get on the board and that's what it took.

A strong tackle from the Storm forced the ball out of Joel Edwards grasp and left the Tigers forward on the ground, as the Storm fought their ball and Asofa-Solomona scored the bunker was asked to review the contact. The Leichhardt faithful begged for a Storm player to be sent off from the contact but at the same time Bernard Sutton uttered the important words "grounds the ball, have a decision and going to the board", with the try awarded and at half time the Storm trailed by only 14-6.

The second 40 was all Melbourne and despite the Tigers showing a bit just after the break the game turned off the back of a Cam Smith 40/20 and from the Storm scored through Young Tonumaipea to close the gap back to four. The issues of the first few weeks were back on show for the Tigers despite the new coach, with the Storm's next two tries coming off an 80m effort by Cheyse Blair who sliced through poor defence, before Josh Addo-Carr outdid Blair with a 90m effort straight from dummy half to seal the win.

Melbourne won't be happy with the performance but it takes them to four-from-four this season, while the Tigers do have positives to take from the game but their performances outside the first half hour still let them down.

The Storm next week will look forward to welcoming the Panthers - who are yet to win at AAMI Park with the opposition's last win in Melbourne coming at the old Olympic Park- whilst the Tigers are at home to the St George Illawarra Dragons at ANZ Stadium.
