1.

Last week: 1st

Took the best part of 75 minutes before they stole victory from a wily Eels side. The best teams beat the teams they should beat and that was the case - only just - last weekend.

2.

Last week: 2nd

An eight-game winning streak looks good but in recent weeks it's been a case of only just getting there. Like the Dragons it only matters that they keep winning, but close-run games against better teams may not reap as good a result.

3.

Last week: 3rd

Edged out the Roosters in a tense game in Adelaide, despite some late alterations to their lineup. Face a huge test of their credentials against the Dragons, albeit both sides will miss their Origin reps.

4.

Last week: 5th

This Roosters side is made of stern stuff but couldn't quite get there against Melbourne. Rise on the basis of Penrith falling.

5.

Last week: 4th

Two losses on the bounce now and things aren't looking too good for the Panthers. Well below par against the Sea Eagles and further injury concerns, the next few games will define their season.

6.

Last week: 7th

Jekyll/Hyde performance on Saturday night - a woeful first half backed by an amazing second forty against the Raiders. If they can replicate that second half more consistently and improve their opening forty... look out.

7.

Last week: 6th

Fell at the final hurdle against a spirited Sharks side. Need to keep their best side on the park if they're going to buck the Warriors' trend of recent seasons - a collapse after Origin

8.

Last week: 8th

Snapped a losing streak of a couple of games, but will need to do more to convince everyone they're a more serious threat. The bye will be a good chance to put serious focus on their run home. Still a Top 4 chance if they can rediscover their mid-season form.

9.

Last week: 10th

Benefitting solidly from the mid-season Origin period and now have picked up some handy wins. Will need to win some tough games in coming weeks to be any chance of a late finals tilt.

10.

Last week: 9th

The term "did a Raiders" is fast gaining traction in NRL circles - another close game where the Raiders dominated early and were reeled in by their opposition for a close loss. Their season has turned on those kinds of negative results.

11.

Last week: 11th

Injury crisis deepening in the Hunter. Ponga missing for a month and Griffin's season over are both bad news for those who call Newcastle home. Fell apart under the weight of a short bench against the Bulldogs and it gets no easier after Origin III.

12.

Last week: 13th

After an atrocious showing against the Titans, the Belmore boys shed two stars and lost two more to injury - but played one of their best games of the season. Lachlan Lewis showed plenty of potential on debut.

13.

Last week: 12th

The addition of Moses Mbye and return of Robbie Farah did little to arrest the Tigers' slide in another season where the bus is sliding down the embankment...

14.

Last week: 15th

A poor quality contest against Penrith but the Manly boys did spark up enough to get the job done. They won't have it as easy against Melbourne or the Roosters after the bye though.

15.

Last week: 14th

Came so close to another win, but the Bunnies just had that bit of class at the end. Not the way JT would have wanted to go out with such a poor season so soon after the 2015 title.

16.

Last week: 16th

Just as the good teams seem to win the games they need to - the bad teams seem to lose the games they're destined to. Should've beaten the Dragons but lacked the class to close it out.
