A quick look at what's making news in rugby league on Sunday 10 March 2019.

Sharks cap relief imminent

Reports abound today suggesting that Cronulla are on the verge of finding a solution to their salary cap issues, with recently re-signed hooker James Segeyaro the likely player to make way.

Previous reports suggested second-rower Ava Seumanufagai, who joined the club from the Wests Tigers last year, would pack up and head to the UK, but he's since appeared to baulk at the idea of moving his family across the other side of the globe.

Their problems don't end with Segeyaro's likely departure though - they'll likely have to part with another player before the June 30 deadline.

Broncos Round 1 team previewed

Incoming Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold has gone early by naming his likely squad for next Thursday's season opener against Melbourne. Speaking to the sponsors and fans on Friday at the club's season launch, he threw up a few surprises in the forward pack, with Jaydn Su'A listed in the back row and Matt Gillett at lock, while Tevita Pangai Junior looks set to come off the bench. Thomas Flegler looks set to make his NRL debut as well after attracting a lot of positive attention during the off-season.

Catalans Kas

Over the weekend Super League club Catalans confirmed the signing of former Bulldogs and Storm forward Sam Kasiano. The 28-year-old heads to France with 153 first grade games under his belt and will be available as soon as next weekend's trip to Hull KR.

The Perpignan-based side will be hoping he can bring some much needed starch to their lineup after they were thumped by Salford 46-0 overnight in front of their home fans.

Cecchin back

After a tumultuous 2018, referee Matt Cecchin is set to return to the NRL this season.

Initially thought to be headed to the UK, several factors - including visa issues - combined to make his decision for him. The RFL has abandoned plans to trial the NRL's two-referee model, which Cecchin was slated to oversee.

He makes his return after walking away from the NRL at the end of last season, having opened up in interviews about the abuse he had received in the prior 12 months and general disillusionment about officiating standards.
