Brisbane Broncos v Warriors

The Warriors have become the first team to defeat the Brisbane Broncos in NRLW history following an impressive 10-8 win at the Sydney Cricket Ground in front of 6,208 fans.

The NZ side started the game at a pace above their opponents and a string of penalties helped them upfield. In just the fifth minute, the Warriors were able to get on the board when they elected to run the ball down the short side on the last tackle and score through Madison Bartlett.

The Warriors were able to keep the pressure up and despite having one try knocked back by the bunker for an obstruction, they were able to add a second try through Annette Nuuasuala when she was able to get away from the 3-on-1 tackle by the Broncos defenders and get to the line to score a try. Following the successful conversion from Apii Nicholls, the Warriors were up 10-0.

The second half saw the momentum change big time as the Broncos were looking to keep their undefeated NRLW season intact, and they were able to get on the board just after half time when Tamika Upton got herself over in the northwest corner following some good work from her teammates.

The momentum was well and truly in favour of the Broncos and after they were able to go the distance off a 20m restart and off the back of a good-looking ball from Brigginshaw to Annette Brandner who found Amy Turner with an offload to score. An unlikely miss from Chelsea Baker at close range left the scores at 10-8 with the Warriors needing to hold onto their lead.

The Warriors muscled up defensively, as the Broncos kept coming - the defence of the New Zealanders strong enough to keep the score at 10-8. A late error gave the Warriors a chance to score in the dying seconds but an error meant the scores stayed at 10-8.

Next weekend, the Broncos have a spot in the Grand Final next Sunday whilst the Warriors would be hoping for a Sydney Roosters win in their clash with the Dragons tomorrow to book their maiden Grand Final spot.
