Determined Bulldogs down Broncos

The Bulldogs have pulled off a huge upset, knocking over the Brisbane Broncos 10-7 in terrible conditions at ANZ Stadium tonight in front of 7421 brave fans.

After a tumultuous few days following last week's heavy loss, the Canterbury side were desperate for a win, and they definitely put in an improved performance.

Brisbane scored the only try of the first half through Sam Thaiday, before Jordan Kahu took the two teams to the break with a field goal.

Trailing by seven points at the half, and in some of the worst conditions you're likely to see all season, the Bulldogs looked to be no chance of reeling in the heavy favourited Broncos. But apparently nobody told the Bulldogs that.

The Canterbury-Bankstown forward pack led the way for their halves, rookie Matt Frawley and the ever-enthusiastic Josh Reynolds. Captain James Graham set an example for his side, with 185 metres and almost 60 tackles, including one try-(and probably match-)saving tackle down the sideline late in the second half.

Graham was ably supported by fellow forwards Sam Kasiano (who thought he was a centre), Josh Jackson and especially David Klemmer, who ran for 300 metres during the match.

Given some space to move, Frawley and Reynolds combined a number of times over the course of the match, with the pair unlucky not to have more points between them. Reynolds was denied three tries during the match, all from Frawley kicks, but still managed to pick up a four pointer in the second half. Young fullback Brad Abbey also picked up a try to seal his side's win.

But it was grit and hard work from the forwards, and determination and enthusiasm from Reynolds that won the game for the Bulldogs.
